Upcoming Spring Sports

Another sports season is coming around and Creekview students are wasting no time preparing. The boys’ soccer team has been conditioning since November in order to get into playing shape for what will be an intense season. And the soccer team is not the only one in preparation mode! To make things easier on Creekview’s sports enthusiasts, here is a preview of all the upcoming spring sports:

Tennis-
The tennis season starts after Christmas break with conditioning. Tryouts begin January 17th after school. Students will need a physical and a racket. If in need of more information contact either Coach Hubbard or Coach Baublitz.

Soccer-
The pre-season conditioning started back in November but tryouts do not take place until January 24-27. Students who wish to try-out are encouraged to follow the conditioning outlines found on the school website and to work with the ball daily. Dedication, preparation, and presentation matter a lot to the coaches so participants should always show up early, hustle, and have a positive attitude. For the boys that means showing up to as many conditioning practices as they can and for the girls that means working out on their own time and practicing with the ball at home.

Track-

The first track meeting will be January 14th in the theater. Participants will be issued the fundraising packets at the meeting. The parent meeting is January 21st in the theater. Even though there are not any tryouts students should make sure they are fully committed before signing up as practices and meets can be grueling.

Golf-
The season starts the second week in February. There will be several meetings before then to officially update anyone interested in trying out for golf. You must have an up to date physical on file here at school and be academically eligible to try out. You need to have golf clubs and be aware of proper golf etiquette. Since golf season weather is not the best be prepared to play in less than perfect conditions.
Tryout Tips from the Coaches:
1. BE ON TIME: which actually means early. If tryouts start at 4:00 be dressed and ready to go by 3:50.
2. Relax – Tryouts are stressful but try to relax – just get out there and do your best
3. Look and listen: If the coach or coaches are talking make sure you are looking at them and listening intently.
4. Hustle and Intensity: If the coach tells you to bring it in be one of the first in, work hard the entire time.
5. Questions? Then ask. If you were looking at the coach and listening intently and you still do not understand do not be afraid to ask for clarification. A coach will not get mad if you truly do not understand something, but if you were not listening then beware.
6. Mistakes: They WILL happen however the key is what you do in the 3 seconds after the mistake. Do you get your head down and give up? Or do you try to correct it? If you mess up keeping going hard and give it your all, never stop.
7. Positivity: Be upbeat and encouraging: tell your teammates nice pass, great shot etc.
8. Help out: Be the first to help pick up equipment.
9. Confidence: Play with confidence; believe you can do it and you will.
10. Speak up and be assertive: Do not be afraid to jump in and play in other positions, but make sure that the coach sees you play in your most successful position.
